Big Idea Book --- Final Page

the whole book

page 7
page 8

It is my final page of my big idea book. Actually, it is not a real “page”. It is an artwork I made related to my big idea Memory. This work is about the process to make memory. In my opinion making memory is just like weaving something. All the things are interlaced and come to together as a whole, we keep doing it, but we can never know the exactly shape of it until it finished. Even though we make plans of it at the beginning, but it changes all the times. Sometimes you can control it, but some accidents often take place. Sometimes it seems to be just repeated, but you can always find surprise like the color of knitting wool changes all the times. I put a mirror above the knitting, when you look at my whole book, you can see yourself at first. It’s like you are weaving the memory by the time you see my work.

It is a process of exploring the big idea memory for me during making this book. I have done three artworks by myself and there’s one guest work by Bertie. The order is store the memory (memory tube), the shape of memory (memory sea), the specific event of memory (guest page about elephant) and finally the process of making memory (weaving). Through all these works and read some other artists working on the same big idea, I find it really interesting that one big idea can express from many perspectives. And the big idea really has a strong power to let artists make various artworks.

  1. Cool Chutting! I was wondering how you were going to bring all of your work together into the final book, including your memory tubes, etc. I love it. The weaving with the mirror is such a nice "last page". Your artist statement really explains all of the deep conceptual levels that you have taking place in your book. I also find it interesting how one big idea can bring forward so many amazing view points. In addition, I think it is neat how all of our big ideas seem to have points of overlap.
